Q1. Compaq Insight Manager going away?
A1. No. Compaq Insight Manager 7 represents the convergence of Compaq Insight Manager (Win32) and Compaq Insight Manager XE. Compaq Insight Manager (Win32 application) will continue to be available for download from the Compaq website.

Q2. How long will Compaq Insight Manager (Win32) support new hardware and provide customer service support?
A2. Compaq will provide limited hardware support for the Win 32 application for 6 months and Technical Telephone support through the Compaq call center for 18 months following availability of Compaq Insight Manager 7. For-fee Technical Telephone support will be provided once the 18 months Technical Telephone support period has elapsed.

Q3. What level of hardware support is Compaq Insight Manager (Win32) going to provide following the release of Compaq Insight Manager 7?
A3. Compaq Insight Manager (Win32) will support hardware enhancements to ML and DL series ProLiant Servers for six months after the availability of Compaq Insight Manager 7. For example, Compaq Insight Manager (Win32) will support Hot Plug memory and new hardware-related events. Compaq Insight Manager (Win32) will also provide fault and event management for new servers. However, support for new servers will not include support for enclosure communication interfaces, visualization, or infrastructure event correlation. These capabilities will be available in the next release of Compaq Insight Manager 7.


Q4. How long will Compaq Insight Manager (Win32) be available on the Compaq Management CD?
A4. Compaq Insight Manager (Win32) will be available on the Compaq Management CD version 5.3 but will be removed from future versions. However, Compaq Insight Manager (Win32) will continue to be available for download on the Compaq web site at http://www.compaq.com/support/files/server/us/index.html.

Q5. I want to continue to use Compaq Insight Manager (Win32). Will I be able to get support from Compaq?

A6. Compaq Insight Manager 7 is the focal point of the Compaq Insight Management suite. It provides simple but powerful web-based management including rapid access to detailed fault and performance information gathered by the Compaq Management Agents. Compaq Insight Manager 7 can be installed on a desktop or a server and can use either an MSDE or a SQL Server database. Compaq Insight Manager 7 helps maximize system uptime and performance and reduces the cost of maintaining the IT infrastructure by providing proactive notification of problems before those problems result in costly downtime. Compaq Insight Manager 7 also introduces powerful new functionality for system software maintenance and configuration of management parameters across groups of managed devices. Q7. How do I upgrade my systems from Compaq Insight Manager (Win32) to Compaq Insight Manager 7?
A7. Upgrading from Compaq Insight Manager (Win32) to Compaq Insight Manager 7 is a simple two-step process. First you should export a host file from Win32 console. Next, you should import the host file into Compaq Insight Manager 7. Once this is done, you will be able to manage the same set of devices that you had discovered and managed with Compaq Insight Manager (Win32). Compaq Insight Manager 7 combines the ease of use of Compaq Insight Manager (Win 32) with powerful new features not available in the legacy platform. Compaq Insight Manager 7 provides a customizable home page capable of displaying 100+ devices without scrolling as well as "one click" access to the Compaq Management Agents, Remote Insight Lights Out Edition, and Compaq Version Control Agent.

Compaq Insight Manager 7 is also capable of performing group version control and system software updates as well as configuring SNMP and Version Control settings across groups of ProLiant servers. Compaq Insight Manager 7 provides improved e-mail and paging messages, integration with the SAN Management Appliance and the Compaq Intelligent Services Link, SSL security, and the ability to leverage Windows NT Domain and Windows 2000 Active Directory user accounts. Q9. Do I have to upgrade all of my Compaq Management Agents in order to use Compaq Insight Manager 7?
A9. No. You do not have to upgrade your Compaq Management Agents to use Compaq Insight Manager 7. Compaq Insight Manager 7 will leverage the existing Compaq Management Agents installed on the device. In order to get the most out of Compaq Insight Manager 7, including the ability to fully leverage SSL and system software maintenance capabilities; Compaq strongly recommends that users upgrade their Windows servers to the Compaq Support Paq for Windows version 5.3 which will be available for download in December of 2001 and on the 5.3 Management CD (or SmartStart CD 5.3) in December of 2001.
