Pursuing and attaining public office can be downright challenging, but Steve Pomfret, a principal engineer in Marlborough, Mass., has answered the challenge in his hometown of Maynard, Mass., for years. He has served on the Maynard Board of Assessors since 1982 and currently serves as its chairman. It's a position that often finds him at odds with his neighbors, but the way he diffuses conflict over property taxes harkens back to the reason he chose to serve in the first place.

Deb Pedrazzi was competent and comfortable working for HP. Then her division was sold in 2005 and she found herself searching for another job. Her skills and the outplacement support HP provided helped her land on her feet at another, smaller company where she is thriving.

The man behind badge 808, Steve Spaulding, is closing in on a half century with the company. Spaulding started his career with Digital Equipment Corporation in 1963 and today works as a design-for-manufacturing engineer in Business Critical Systems in Marlborough, Mass. He attributes his longevity to the dedicated and caring colleagues he has had over the years.

HP has been focused strategically on new college hires and nowhere is that more evident than in the Technology Solutions Group (TSG) Americas organization in Marlborough. In the past few weeks, 19 recent grads have joined TSG Americas and completed a three-week training program. They are among the 250 new college grads who have joined the company and completed training this year, bolstering HP's spot on CollegeGrad.com's list of the Top 50 Entry Level Employers for 2008. |
